Evaluating your competencies as a PhD candidate is an important part of your academic journey, as it can help you identify areas where you excel and areas where you may need additional support. The good news is that there are now innovative tools available that can help you to conduct an auto-evaluation of your competencies as a PhD candidate, making the process easier, more efficient, and more accurate.
In 2019, the group from PhD@work of the Université de Louvain, have published this document ( https://cdn.uclouvain.be/groups/cms-editors-p2/brochures-thematiques/Brochure-PhDs%40Work-EN.pdf). In this document, there are 6 different tools to assess your level of competencies regarding your PhD skill set and training need. All tools are auto-evaluation, which requires more time to do some introspection and answer with clarity and honesty. If you need help with answering these questionnaires, you can try asking for help during the weekly writing sessions. We think that this tool (see below, one of the 6 presented) offers a great balance, between a good overview of competencies and a manageable time to complete it. However, it only exists in French.
